Every year, on 9 August we celebrate Women’s Day. In fact the whole month is dedicated to women. The programming on TV and radio is more inclusive to women. We’re told that we are appreciated and we’re so strong that we’re called ‘iimbokodo’. ‘Wathinta abafazi, wathinta imbokodo’, they say.

Why though? When women, especially black women, are still the least respected and appreciated in the country. When women are the least paid – no matter how much education and experience they possess. When women are raped and murdered each and everyday – with little to nothing done about it.

So… I don’t really celebrate Women’s Day, and I don’t want to. Not until there’s a drastic change.

This Women’s Day, author and strategist, Sihle Bolani, partnered with a few phenomenal ladies and created a tribute on behalf of South African women. I wasn’t going to post anything today, but I loved the video so much that I decided to write this article.

The video is quite powerful so I don’t want to mess it up by giving a wack synopsis. Check it out below.

Thank you for this, Sihle!
